FRAKO - Power Factor Correction

FRAKO supplies all needed PFC components, modules and ready-to-connect power factor correction systems in freestanding or wall-mounting cabinets - detuned versions for networks with harmonics, or systems without detuning for harmonic-free installations.

FRAKO power factor correction systems are constructed with a variable number of modules in combination with control relay and fan assemblies. These systems are type-tested and are offered as standard and industrial units for manufacturing sites, commercial premises, banks, administration blocks or insurance offices, etc.

‘Made in Germany’ quality and world-class, leading-edge technology – with features such as self-healing, segmented capacitor film, contact ring and a mechanical fuse (so called fourfold safety system) to protect against excessive pressure – ensure safety and reliability in operation. The patented contact ring technology also enables FRAKO to produce completely lead-free capacitors and make yet another improvement to their operating reliability. 

FRAKO power capacitors are available in four versions:

  • Basic (LKT-DB)
  • Standard (LKT-DP)
  • Premium (LKT-DL)
  • Heavy Duty (LKT-HD)

The user can specify the ideal power capacitor for individual requirements in terms of ampacity, ambient temperature and expected service life.

FRAKO reactive power control relays can be employed universally; they adapt themselves automatically to the power factor correction system to which they are connected and to the network requiring this correction. The patented control characteristic curve regulates cos phi to the selected target value and avoids overcorrecting under low load conditions. Charges for reactive power demand are therefore reliably eliminated and the risk of network disruption is reduced.

  • High accuracy and sensitivity even in networks heavily contaminated with harmonics
  • Detection of power fed back into the supply in networks with their own generating facilities
  • No undue stressing of the components of the power factor correction system in operation
  • Increased service life expectation for the system

FRAKO-modules and mounting plates make the assembly of power factor correction systems particularly straightforward, since all the necessary components are already preassembled on them. They fit in all the usual makes of control cabinet, such as Siemens (SIVACON), Rittal (TS), Hensel (SAS 2000), KÖHL (ModuCon), NATUS (ENERGON) and Eaton (xEnergy, Modan).

FRAKO modules are particularly suitable for integrating power factor correction systems in type-tested low voltage switchgear designs. Thus the modules are therefore popular with control panel builders and OEM customers.
